Every art examinee will face many problems when drawing gouache, such as how to mix colors, how to shape objects and so on. But students often ignore the key issue of how to use these brushes with both hands. When using a gouache pen, it can express the texture of an object. For example, how to use a pen as a lining can achieve a heavier effect. How to make the glass transparent with a pen. Now, I will use a pen based on my own experience:
When using a pen to shape an object, pay attention to the direction of the pen, which can block the surface and speed. Priority should be given to the speed of the pen, and the arrangement direction of the color block strokes should start from the structure and performance requirements of the object. (for example, when placing a serif color, follow the trend and place it)
1. Take out appropriate thick and thin pigments, observe the painted parts, and then place them gently, stably and slowly.
2. Brush: use a large number of brushes, which contain more water and pigment (more water than color) to quickly eliminate larger color relationships (avoid redrawing bright surfaces to keep white normal). This painting method is suitable for painting background or lining and background color of main and large block objects. In the initial stage, this method is suitable.
3. Inlay: use medium or small pen to check the painting area on the side, press the color to the appropriate position with the pen, and then quickly lift it back, which is suitable for the projection of details and small areas. (for example, the mouth of a wine bottle)
4. Friction: when the two colors are too hard or the contrast is obvious, a small amount of water can be used to properly match some colors, and gently sweep back and forth between them to make the color connection more natural, and the transition is rich and lasting.
5. Scanning: the speed of using the pen should be fast, and the gouache pen and color should be dry. It is suitable for drawing reflective parts and highlights only when the tip of the pen touches the surface of the paper.
6. Point: use a small pen to show subtle positions and trivial shapes. (patterns on objects, texture of transparent glass)
The above is my experience in drawing over the years. I hope it can help gouache painting candidates.
