If only artificial light is used to illuminate a group of still life, their state can remain unchanged. This is a very ideal state for those who want to practice painting skills simply, because they can calm down to practice in no hurry. Now, some special light bulbs can be bought in most art stores. They are very close to the natural light, can reflect a wider range of colors, and can make the projection of objects stronger.
The most attractive still life is those objects that are directly exposed to the sun. If you choose such a still life to paint, you need to divide your work into several working days to complete. Never modify your work because of the movement of the sun.
Before making a final decision, it's best to let still life try several different angles of natural light. You can choose one or two main objects in this group of still life, and then constantly change their positions, so that the sunlight will have different effects due to the change of their positions. You may notice that the interest point of still life is the least under the positive light, so the positive light is usually avoided in still life and portrait painting, because it will make the object appear too flat.
For some objects, the effect of backlighting can be very interesting, because it can produce silhouettes and haloed outlines. A potted plant or a vase of flowers placed on the windowsill will produce a totally different effect when exposed to backlight. Sunlight can penetrate some of the petals and then project on others. In addition, this type of object needs to be completed in a relatively short time, or use a quick direct drawing method for painting.
The very strong light in the picture shines on the still life from the right side, casting a dark shadow on the wall behind the object, and gradually deepening along the left side of the shadow, thus forming the depth sense of the picture and the volume sense of the still life.
In this work, the light comes from the left, the shadow cast breaks the dull color of the background, and the highlight is reflected on the glass bottle. Because the glass is transparent, the light does not shine on one side like other opaque vessels, and most of the images seen through the glassware will be distorted. Fruit and plates are the only objects in this picture that change from light to dark due to the light.
